About
The Newport Hills Swim Team was founded in 1972, right after our neighborhood was completed in 1970. Our team has boasted over 320 swimmers between the ages 5 to 18 in a given season.
Over the years our coaching staff has included a Who’s Who list of local swimming and water polo celebrities such as Charlie Schober, former head coach of UCI’s Men’s swim team, Mike Evans, Silver Medalist for USA Men’s water polo in the ’88 Olympics in Seoul, Korea.
While NHST boasts a strong family and community-centered program, many of our past swim team members have gone on to achieve broader success in aquatic sports in high school, college and post college activities such as becoming lifeguards for the City and County. Maddie Musselman is one of our teams’ most recent success stories. She plays water polo for Team USA and is headed to her third Olympics in Paris this summer.
Over the years being part of our team has been a highlight of summer activities in the Port Streets. Whale-A-Thon, KWIC’s, Speeding Tickets, Fin Fridays, Parent Parties, Awards Banquet, Age Group Events, Port Street Amigos tacos, and Lip Sync are just a few of the events and activities that kids and parents alike look forward to year after year, creating memories that last a lifetime.
